Shipment of collapsible flatracks

20' and 40' collapsible flatracks have become the most popular type of flatracks used in the container industry. Their advantage (versus fixed end flatracks) is obvious: they can be used both as platform and endwall flatracks and: as the cargo they are needed for (i.e. heavy weight - out of of gauge cargo) is often only oneway the flats can be folded , stacked together by special locking devices and sent back in bundles to where they are required again. Usually 4 x 40' flats resp. 7 x 20' flats form a bundle with the outside dimensions of a standard iso 40' resp. 20' container thus saving space on the ships and also saving handling cost.

Delta is often involved in the shipment of such bundles of coll. flatracks . However, as accidents have happened in the past with incorrect or insuffient secured bundles it is very important that shippers of such bundles follow carefully all instructions of the manufacturers of these flatracks and check before shipment the full functioning of all locking devices and their correct use.

We have issued a "Notice to all shippers of collapsible flatracks in bundles" aiming to make our clients aware of their responsibilities and all legal aspects/consequences in this connection which might turn out to be costly if not being adressed. This Notice is being sent together with any booking confirmation for this equipment type.
